Before you start cleaning, having the right materials is key! Different mattress covers and stains may need different tools, but there are a few essentials you'll need. Here are some common cleaning supplies to help you tackle all kinds of stains.
  • Cold water: Use it for initial cleaning or rinsing stains to prevent hot water from setting the stains.
  • Soft cloth or brush: A soft cloth or brush helps remove surface stains without damaging the waterproof mattress cover.
  • Spray bottle: A spray bottle allows for precise application of cleaning solution, ensuring even coverage.
  • Distilled vinegar: Vinegar is a natural cleaner that helps eliminate odors, stains, and bacteria.
  • Baking soda: Baking soda effectively absorbs stains and odors, especially useful for tackling oil or liquid stains.
  • Enzyme cleaner or hydrogen peroxide: These cleaners are great for removing stubborn organic stains like urine, blood, or sweat, helping break down stain molecules for a thorough clean.
These tools will help you target specific stains, ensuring each cleaning achieves the best results.

1. Removing Urine Stains

When you wake up in the morning and find that your baby or pet has had an accident on the bed, do you see yourself stressing over how to handle that yellow stain? Are you thinking, "Is this mattress cover ruined?" Don’t worry! Removing urine stains is pretty simple, especially if you catch it early. With a quick response, your mattress cover can be as good as new. Now, we’re going to share an easy tip to tackle urine stains, so you don’t have to stress over accidents anymore!

(1) Mix equal parts vinegar and cold water, then spray or blot the stain with a cloth. For tougher stains, like pet accidents, try using an enzyme cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, or a mix of baking soda and dish soap.

(2) Sprinkle baking soda on the stain to help neutralize the urine and get rid of any odors.

(3) Let it sit for 20 minutes to a few hours, depending on how bad the stain is.

(4) Wash the mattress cover by hand or in the machine to make sure it’s really clean.

(5) Air dry the cover after washing—avoid using high heat. If needed, repeat the process.

(6) For older stains, soak the cover in a water and vinegar solution overnight, then repeat until it's fully clean.

These simple steps will help you easily remove urine stains and keep your mattress cover fresh and clean.

4. Removing Mold Stains

On rainy days, we’ve all noticed how clothes left out to dry just stay damp and often end up smelling musty or even developing mold spots. Even clothes, sheets, or duvet covers that aren't in use can get moldy from the damp air. During times like these, we can’t help but complain about the awful weather and stress over how to get rid of those pesky spots. If you're in the UK, you probably know exactly what I mean! But don’t worry too much—there are simple ways to get rid of those mold stains!

5. Using Borax Laundry Detergent or *Borax Powder

(1) Pop the sheets and some laundry detergent into the washing machine.

(2) Dissolve half a cup of borax in hot water.

(3) Once the washing machine is filled with water, pour in the borax solution.

(4) Start the wash on a gentle cycle, and let the machine do its thing!

*Borax is a natural mold fighter that doesn’t release any harmful gases. It helps get rid of mold and freshen up your sheets, leaving them smelling clean and musty-free.

6. Using Vinegar

(1) Soak the waterproof mattress cover in a tub with 1-2 cups of vinegar and water for about an hour.

(2) Throw the mattress cover and some detergent into the washing machine, then add water.

(3) Add 1-2 cups of vinegar during the wash to give the cleaning a little extra boost.

(4) Set the wash to a gentle cycle and let the machine work its magic!
After washing, hang the waterproof mattress cover in a sunny spot to dry. The sun's heat and UV rays help kill off any mold.
